Novel Excerpt from the WIP: NaNoWriMo Day 13

Olwen winced as she stepped into the foyer. The one she told herself she would never enter again. Back to speak to the woman she swore she’d never speak to again. She felt nauseous and decided that it was probably the seed inside her. This one had lasted far longer than any she had carried before and she was starting to wonder about who she would be as a mother.

Her body tensed, as if trying to shield her mind from her mother’s control. She needed answers.

Verdie came barrelling down the stairs, aflutter with words flying in a trail behind her. A nurse Olwen didn’t recognize tried to keep up.

Verdie almost ran straight into her.

“Hi–” Olwen started, and the look Verdie gave her once she saw her shut her up.

“Are you just here to make trouble?” Verdie asked.

“I — I need to talk to Mother.”

“Over my dead body,” Verdie said. “She is already frail enough without the histrionics you bring.”

“It’s — Verdie,” Olwen moved in close and looked her in the eye. “I need my mother.”

“Well, she don’t need you.” Verdie spun and then turned back. “And don’t try any of that stuff on her either.”
