listening to icicles
they giggle softly
dripdripdrip
drop
drap
rods of burning cold
tensing their muscles
to break free of the shingles
crackackackackackle
they blind with the light
of a reflected winter sun
and mirror the calm
of soothing soft snow
blipblipblip
blop
blup
slowly melting now
making waves of ice
beneath them
to be suspended from
the sky the snow
anything but the roof
buckleuckleuckleuckleuckle
. . .
floating among the snowflakes
little brothers of ice
the ground beneath
comes near
the icicles reach
trying to embrace
crassssssssssssssssh
I rarely see such an awesome display of onomatopoeia, this is AWESOME.
I can actually hear the noises.. 🙂

I love ‘crackackackackackle’, like JonellaMarie says, one can hear the noises, brilliant 🙂
This is the time of year when the icicles are forming, here in the mid-west. The sun is warming the snow on the roof and the icicles drip from the eaves. Thanks for making this such an experience for the senses. 🙂
I wrote this during my first real winter (I am originally a Florida girl) and so much about the snow and ice were brand new and really magical to me. My senses were totally overwhelmed trying to get it all in!
Seems warm and cold at the time time. Great looking blog.
Wow, I love that analysis! Thank you!
Yeah, I like thinking in terms of combining two contrasting ideas. Best of luck.
We like this. It sounds very familiar since we live in the Northeast. Often we are awoken from our afternoon nap by that crush sound.
Bella and DiDi
I love how you made them come to life…it’s as though I could actually hear the sounds…great “audio!”
Thank you!
A great description, I could hear the noises… really awesome, direct but not simple… I love it 🙂
This is an amazing poem. I love it and you can imagine everything. Well done.
I like to listen a water drops falling in cave when I switched off the light
I agree with the great “audio” and imagery comments. 😀
Thanks!
